The human being is the central subject of creation, and understanding its existential and psychological dimensions is essential for achieving the purpose of creation and attaining mental well-being. For this reason, self-knowledge has always been a major concern of mystics and thinkers. ʿAllamah Faizani, a distinguished contemporary Islamic mystic and thinker, and Mawlānā Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī, the great Sufi of the 7th century AH, both showed profound interest in examining issues related to the understanding of the human being. Given the importance of this topic, the question arises: What perspectives do these two mystics hold concerning “human understanding”? To what extent are a person’s beliefs, emotions, and actions voluntary, and to what extent are they determined by factors beyond one’s control? And is the human being inherently angelic or devilish? Is he changeable or not? Can he take charge of his own destiny or not? And what elements contribute to mental health? |
