The present study aimed to "model the challenges of art education in the Iraqi education system based on interpretive structural modeling. The research method was a case study of interpretive structural modeling. The statistical population of the study included university professors and art teachers, who were selected through purposive sampling of 23 people. The data collection tool included documents and a researcher-made questionnaire, and the interpretive structural modeling technique was used to analyze the data. The results showed that 10 factors including the lack of specialized teachers for art education, the inattention of educational administrators and policymakers to art lessons; the weakness of the educational space and facilities, the lack of budget for art education, the monopoly of art on visual arts due to cultural or religious issues (the conflict of dance and music with religious norms), the lack of acceptance and low importance of art for parents, the lack of appropriate educational books and content in the field of art education, the lack of a comprehensive and systematic approach to art education, the lack of sufficient time allocated for art education, and the low importance of art lessons in society are the main challenges of art education in Iraqi schools |
