Abstract

The participants were 24 female students at the risk of identity crisis studying at the primary and secondary grades of high school, 8th district of education in Tehran, during the academic years of 1384-1385. The high schools were randomly selected and the female students who were at risk were identified in accordance with the directive of the Prevention Office of Social Harm and Natural Disasters from the deputy of Physical Education and Health of the ministry of education. A test of identity crisis was administered and based on its results the female students who were found to have the identity crisis were randomly divided into two groups, including 12-members in each group, the experimental and control group. Thereafter, the students in the experimental group had a nine session treatment of group counseling based on the Glaser’s theory of reality therapy. Analysis  of the pretest and the posttest results revealed that group counseling, following the reality therapy of Glaser’s theory, has reduced the identity crisis among the female students at risk. In addition, it was found to be effective in resolving the problem of achieving long-term goals, creating a positive self-concept and group loyalty, resolving inappropriate sexual behavior, and acquiring a religious identity. In contrast, it didn’t indicate any change with regard to paying attention to the moral values and resolving uncertainty about selecting the prospective career. According to the findings of this study, the use of group counseling of Glaser as an approach to reduce the identity crisis among female students at risk is recommended.
