Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the role of teachers in improving the reading skills of first grade students. This study was conducted with phenomenological qualitative quality and using semi-structured study tools with 16 informants with purposeful sampling method until reaching theoretical saturation and was done using open and axial coding. Data analysis using Atlas software. In order to identify the following five main categories namely specialized knowledge, communication and job interest, familiarity with curriculum elements, behavioral competence and charismatic power and constructive thinking of the teacher. The results showed that it is necessary and necessary to pay attention to extractive categories from the teachers' point of view in order to improve the reading skills of the first grade students.
