Purpose: Creating an opportunity for children to participate in the education system is an opportunity for the school to have a unique setting to do so. The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of school rules and disciplinary actions in ensuring students' right to participate.
Methodology: This research was conducted using a qualitative survey method. The statistical population was all principals and teachers who were working in primary schools of Nazarabad city in the academic year 1401-1402. Among them, 17 people were selected by purposive sampling method to the extent of theoretical saturation. The required information was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using three-step coding technique.
Finding: According to the findings; student participation in decision-making is limited to student council membership, while more participation is made in the implementation of pre-designed programs. According to principals and teachers, student participation in school has both positive and negative consequences, and a number of individual and environmental factors hinder this participation. Discipline also through two main components namely; Disciplinary actions (preventive, corrective, incentive and punitive actions) and disciplinary rules (collective and individual disciplinary rules) affect the right to participate.
